This year, Disneyland is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with a Diamond Celebration! The celebration will include all kinds of excitement, including a diamond-draped Sleeping Beauty Castle, “Paint the Night” Parade, a new version of World of Color, and–the one I’m most excited about–Disneyland Forever Fireworks!
“Disneyland Forever” will not just be fireworks. It will be fireworks and a projection show (think “Celebrate the Magic” on Cinderella Castle, but way bigger!) that “will feature the largest installation of projection mapping technology in a Disney park and special effects that will turn Main Street, U.S.A. and other Disneyland park locations into a ‘magical canvas'” (Source: D23).
“Disneyland Forever” will immerse guests into the worlds from the movies. Sleeping Beauty Castle, Main Street U.S.A., the Matterhorn, and other locations will be projected upon, bringing guests to London with Peter Pan, into the jungle with Baloo and Mowgli, onto a boat amidst glowing, floating lanterns with Rapunzel and Flynn, and more. All of this will be paired with fireworks (of course!), making it sure to be a breath-taking, teary-eyed show for everyone present.
As if that weren’t exciting enough, the evening show will also include two new songs, one of which is “Kiss Goodnight,” written by Richard Sherman (legendary songwriter who (usually with his brother, Robert) wrote songs for Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, “it’s a small world,” Winnie the Pooh and so many more). The title, “Kiss Goodnight,” is reminiscent of the Magic Kingdom’s final farewells to it’s late-night guests, which is referred to as “The Kiss Goodnight.” I don’t know if they have anything to do with each other or not, but since I love that final goodbye from Disney World, I love the idea of this Richard Sherman song even more.
I’m a Disney World lover, but nothing has made me want to visit Disneyland in California more than the announcement of this show. “Disneyland Forever” will debut on May 22nd.
Don’t miss out on the chance to catch a sneak peek of the show in this video. The announcement is exciting, but if you just want to see the sample, skip to 1:50 on the minute counter and see the scenes projected onto Main Street U.S.A….and picture yourself standing there on the street, in the center of the Disney magic.
Wow! Amazing, huh?
Here’s a little bit about the other celebration elements that I mentioned:
“World of Color–Celebrate” – This is a new version of Disneyland’s “World of Color” show, which features fireworks, lasers, fountains, projections, special effects, and music. The show will celebrate Walt Disney and his dream of Disneyland, emphasizing what Walt’s life and legacy prove: nothing is impossible.
“Paint the Night” Parade – This parade comes to Disneyland, California from Hong Kong Disneyland. It features new floats, new music, and over 1.5 million LED lights. Together, Mickey Mouse and Tinkerbell’s pixie dust magically “paint the night” and illuminate characters and floats in the parade. Like the other shows, the parade will begin on May 22nd.
It’s all going to be amazing!
What are you most excited about? Will you make it to Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration?
